What are the types of peripheral neuropathy?
The 4 main types of peripheral neuropathy: Sensory peripheral neuropathy – damage to the peripheral nerves that carry messages of touch, temperature, pain, vibration, pressure, and other sensations to the brain. Motor peripheral neuropathy – damage to the nerves that control muscles and movements, such as walking and lifting. Symptoms of diabetic neuropathy will vary depending on the type of diabetic neuropathy you have acquired.
The life altering complication of diabetic neuropathy is very serious and affects 60%-70% of people with diabetes.
What Causes Sensory Neuropathy?
Approximately one third of sensory neuropathy cases are a result of diabetes. Physical trauma or injuries, such as car accidents, falls, sports injuries, and repetitive stress syndromes account for one third of sensory neuropathy cases. The final one third is considered to be idiopathic or unknown.
What is Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN)?
