Effect of Low Level Laser Therapy on serum vitamin D and magnesium levels in patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy – A pilot study.

RESULTS: There was a significant increase in Vitamin D and Magnesium levels after low level laser therapy. We observed a considerable improvement in the quality of life after low level laser therapy demonstrated by a decrease in Vibration perception threshold and Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument and a reduction in Numeric pain rating scale in diabetic Peripheral neuropathy patients.

CONCLUSION: In this study, we found that

low level laser therapy improved the quality of of life and hence may be a useful therapeutic option in treating peripheral neuropathic pain in type 2 diabetic patients. The progress in the serum Magnesium and Vit. D levels were proportional to the quality of life and may be a good indicator of the prognosis of diabetic peripheral neuropathy after low level laser therapy.

This is another study showing the amazing benefits for low level laser therapy for improving neuropathy patients. What is even more interesting is it helped the increase and utilization of very important nutrients vitamin D and magnesium that is deficient in patients with neuropathy.
